A respected physician leader and seasoned expert, Dr. Schiesser is national leader in issues of addiction medicine, pain care, and clinical standards for medications prone to abuse. Since 2005, he has successfully particiapted in numorous civil trials for both plaintiff and defense, as well as serving as an expert in criminal defense and prosecution cases. He is frequently consulted in matters of child custody where a question of addiction or impairment is at issue. He has additionally been consulted to address standard of care and/or allegations of unprofessional conduct by physician license holders through the state medical commission. His patient advocacy resulted in changes in Washington State Law, Wa state licensing commission rules, and a Pulitzer Prize winning collaboration with the Seattle Times ("Methadone and the Politics of Pain"). He has authored dozens of live and web-based presentations for thousands of physicians across the United States, on issues of addiction and the use of abuse prone medications. Dr. Schiesser completed medical school at University of Rochester (1994) and completed a three year residency in Internal medicine at Virginia Mason Medical Center in 1997, and is board certified in internal medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
