Description
Dr. Misch is a Board-certified psychiatrist with over 30 years of professional experience, formerly an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and an Associate Professor in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health at the Colorado School of Public Health. A graduate of Harvard College and Rush Medical College (AOA), Dr. Misch completed residency training in both internal medicine (Rush Medical Center) and psychiatry (Northwestern University). He has held leadership positions in public and private academic settings, including Director of Psychiatry Residency Training, Director of Education for the Department of Psychiatry, Executive Director of both the Northwestern University Health Service and the University of Colorado Wardenburg Health Center, and Senior Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health and Wellness at the University of Colorado Boulder. In addition to private practice of general psychiatry in which Dr. Misch has combined both pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, Dr. Misch has worked with distressed and impaired physicians through the Colorado Physician Health Program. He has extensive expertise in the positive and adverse effects (e.g., on medical conditions and mental health, addiction, cognition/learning/academic success, automobile accidents) of marijuana/cannabis as well as the differential effects of THC vs. CBD. Dr. Misch is an engaging and effective public speaker, having won 19 medical school teaching awards, and he has presented nationally on a variety of topics, especially substance use and abuse among high school and college students with a focus on marijuana, alcohol, and psychostimulants. Dr. Misch has published on psychotherapy, suicide, physician professionalism and humanism, medical education and the scholarship of teaching and learning, college student alcohol abuse, and sexual assault. He is licensed in Colorado and Illinois
