A sworn Master Investigator (ret.) with 20 years of law enforcement experience, I am an expert in law enforcement practices and procedures as they relate to violence and persons crimes and am experienced in handling high profile cases. I am an internationally recognized trainer and expert in abuse and threat-related issues (domestic violence, targeted violence/active shooter, sexual assault, child abuse in domestic violence relationships, restraining orders, gun violence restraining orders, stalking, strangulation, etc.) and the relevant victimology and law enforcement practices. I have developed and operated multidisciplinary behavioral threat assessment and management programs across large jurisdictions (programs related to "prevention and response steps for potential targeted violence.") From my work experience starting the Domestic Violence Threat Management team for a large sheriff's department, and also from my assignments in Internal Affairs and the Professional Standards Bureau, Investigations Bureau, as a Defensive Tactics instructor, and as a training curriculum and program and policy developer, I specialize in accurate and direct expert case review of law enforcement actions specific to violence and how to conduct effective trauma-informed investigations into persons crimes. My background makes me uniquely qualified to address cases of liability, proper procedures and policy adherence for cases of alleged police misconduct in a wide variety of areas and to evaluate cases in criminal, civil, and family law courts. I am a member of the sexual assault Cadre of Experts for End Violence Against Women International, an instructor for the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention and the Alliance for Hope, and a communications committee member and Vice-President of the Pacific Southwest chapter for the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. When hired as an expert, I conduct complete research and preparation for each case providing comprehensive information and case references. My reports are detailed, but easy to read which is imperative in the court system. I have a strong work ethic and insist upon meeting deadlines and providing accurate opinions and supportive evidence/references. I understand the role and limitations of an expert witness and have never lost any of my opinions in a motion in limine. It is a priority for me to remain unbiased and thorough. I am extremely dedicated and easy to work with, understanding how cases work in and outside the court system.
