Description
Skilled hospital nurse clinician with 20 years of direct nursing care of patients with infectious diseases and trauma patients, including injuries and diseases related to neurologic, cardiac, renal, renal transplant, spinal, orthopedic and acute and chronic pain and oncologic diagnoses. Reviewed more than 70 cases in 7 years, written several reports, and been deposed about 8 times in person and video, both plaintiff and defense. Currently working in a hospital designated as a level 1 trauma center. Direct care experience with complex airways, cervical instability, multi-drain management, epidural abscesses, orthopedic hardware infections, invasive monitoring, complex wounds, pain management and surgical interventions from multiple services: orthopedics, neurology, general surgery, thoracics, infectious disease and gastrointestinal medicine. Co-chaired the American Nurse's Association (ANA) Scope & Standards of Practice, the nursing standards that guides nursing practice for the country's 4 million nurses released in 04/2021. Currently Board of Directors Liaison for the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses for the medical-surgical nurses standards of practice. Column writer for Nursing Evidence-Based Practice, having published on safe bedside nursing care. Peer reviewer for the Journal of Trauma Nursing. Professional nursing certifications in medical-surgical nursing, trauma nursing, telemetry, neuroscience nursing and CITI certification to conduct independent nursing research. Continued active contributions as nurse educator, nurse researcher, and nursing leadership: served 2 terms as Regional Coordinator (New England) for Sigma Theta Tau, and now on the Board of Directors at the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. Taught undergraduate to doctoral level in medical-surgical nursing, pathophysiology, psychiatric nursing, nursing research, pharmacology, simulation and clinical rotations.
