Dr. Omar S. Darwish is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a full-time practicing Hospitalist at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange, California. He received his residency training in internal medicine at St. Mary Medical Center and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He has also completed a one-year chief year in Internal Medicine at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Dr. Darwish is available for expert witness consultations to both defense and plaintiff attorneys. He has provided expert review on cases that have involved sepsis, unexpected fall in the hospital, unexpected death, stroke, development of sacral decubitus ulcers, and cases of medical claims of medical necessity. He has also worked as a medical consultant in reviewing Veteran Disability Claims. Dr. Darwish has been the acting coordinator of the Morbidity and Mortality Conferences for the Department of Medicine since 2013. Therefore, as part of his job, he constantly reviews cases that have involved unexpected complications or deaths and creates a learning conference by providing teaching points to the residents and faculty. Dr. Darwish performs preoperative evaluations for high risk patients undergoing elevated risk surgeries. Therefore, he is able to evaluate complications that have occurred in the peri-operative setting which includes bleeding, infections, and blood clots. Dr. Darwish has a particular interest in medical conditions that involve antiplatelet or anticoagulant therapy. These conditions include diseases such as atrial fibrillation, venous thromboembolisms (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism), and hypercoagulable disorders (e.g. antiphospholipid syndrome). He is also has a particular interest in sacral ulcers. He helped create the management algorithm for stage IV decubitus ulcers at his institution.
