    After residency training at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC, Dr. Heitz earned board certification in EM and spent 10 years working in Level 1 Trauma centers in Ohio and Virginia prior to his current position at a busy, high-acuity community emergency department in Salem, Virginia. He has spent 13 years training medical students and residents in emergency medicine as well as other specialties, specifically performing high-fidelity simulated cases to prepare physicians for the care of critically ill and injured patients. During his time in academic medicine, he gained extensive public speaking experience.
