Brent Winans focuses his expert witness practice on insurance agent/broker standard of care cases. . He has served as an expert on approximately 120 agent E&O cases in fifteen states and authors “Expert Commentary” articles on insurance agent E&O for the International Risk Management Institute (IRMI). He teaches a Continuing Legal Education class on insurance agent/broker standard of care which has been approved for one hour of CLE. He holds the CPCU and ARM designations and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lincoln Christian University. He is licensed as a resident General Lines Insurance Agent in Florida and a non-resident Insurance Producer in New Jersey. In his 40 years in the insurance industry, he has become expert in the custom and practice of retail and wholesale insurance brokers as viewed from many perspectives. He began his career as a State Farm agent, then became an independent agent. He has worked for small and mid-sized independent agencies as well as one of the world’s largest insurance brokers. He has coordinated and directed the efforts of agents and brokers as a fee-based risk management consultant and as the Director of Risk Management for an international company with operations on five continents, including the Colorado Rockies Baseball Team, the world’s largest broker of nuclear fuel, and mining operations in the U.S., Africa, and Australia. For two years he served as the office manager for the Plastridge Insurance Agency in Delray Beach, Florida, where he supervised 35+ insurance sales and service employees and was a member of the management team. He is presently employed as the Vice President of Clear Advantage Risk Management, a division of the Plastridge Agency. In that position he provides expert witness services, fee-based risk management services, & handles his own small book of business as an insurance broker.
