Dr. Barnes has over 10 years of clinical experience working in emergency departments across the state of Iowa in community hospital settings. Dr. Barnes is board certified in Family Medicine by the ABFM and he currently practices at Pella Regional Health Center, a level 3 trauma center and critical access hospital in Pella, Iowa. He has leadership experience as a chief resident during his training at University of Iowa- Broadlawns Medical Center family medicine residency. He currently serves as chief of medical staff at PRHC where he acts as a liaison between the administration team and hospital staff. These duties include credentialing, hospital policy and physician quality and review issues. He has clinical experience in the family medicine clinic and as a hospitalist, however, he spends most of his time in the emergency department at PRHC. He has served in 10 different Iowa Emergency Departments. Most of this has been in the rural setting. He has build significant experience in trauma care with current ATLS, ACLS and PALS certification. He has experience in care of critically ill patients, SEPSIS, acute abdomen and acute coronary syndrome including the rapid diagnosis and treatment of acute myocardial infarction. He has experience in airway management, issues related to appropriate patient transfer and EMTALA. He also has experience in the supervision of advanced practice providers in the urgent care setting and emergency department. He has significant frontline experience caring for patients with COVID.
